Gowns Gone

Rio from "Thru Chocolate Eyes" wrote an interesting poem a couple of days ago comparing todays dresses to dresses from the 1900's. In her poem she writes:
"Dresses love women.
Today such gowns aren’t found;
no silks and satins flow,
no rustling, bustling sound.

The corsets were tight,
yet they gave great stature.
Strengthening lungs each day.
Now poise doesn’t matter.

With elegance shunned,
only survived by heels,
We try to make them chaste;
see how girliness feels.

All women have left
is to grow long tresses.
Since we are not allowed
to don princess dresses."

This poem really got me hooked on how much has changed during the many years of different styled dresses. Rio's poem does state truthfulness. the dresses in the 1900's are dresses we today would think of too much to wear. Actually..we wouldn't wear them at all! They are designed as princess dresses we think of today. In the 1900's dresses we're decent and virginal to feel and look accepted but today in 2008 the dresses are sexy and backs or legs are exposed. Women do wear high heels and high heels are what makes the dress. In the 1900's dresses would cover the foot which only left the dress itself to make the impression.

I think we'll be seeing alot of changes with the style of dresses in the future. The dress design in the 1900's are still used in todays stores but just an upgrade to match this years style.

I like how you started to post your opinions about the poems in the actual blog post! Also, I think, you have a good choice of poems there. Not that I can say if they are "good ones" or "bad ones" but for someone like me who does not know anything about poems, they seem to be wonderfully written and your comments make sense to seem!
Overall a good topic as I think, only few people actually still read poems!
